Coba mayan ruins
So far, the vacation has been lazy. Time to do some work.
The plan was to hit one of the seven wonders - ‘ Chichin Itza’ today. Luckily a quick concierge call informed us that ‘Chichen Itza’ is not functioning today. But for that call, we would potentially have driven all the way to Chichen Itza and come back empty handed.
The helpful concierge did not stop there. The highest on our things to do in the trip was to explore ‘ Mayan ruins’ . So, an enquiry on those lines opened up ‘ Coba’ mayan ruins exploration. Coba is a diversion from Tulum and Tulum trip is planned anyway for tomorrow. But as that was in an arranged bus, there was no way to cut a tour to Coba. Also, the Tulum tour was a half day affair and we anticipated rightly that there would be no chance to explore the town. Seeing the mexican life was high up in our wish list too.
From the super market, the drive to Coba was not very long and we took our tickets and a three wheeler and a guide to explain the ruins. So far, the experience with the Mayan local people had been very good and that was one reason I was fine with spending some money which would help the friendly and nice people we were seeing around us.
The guide, whose name was Orlando explained nicely about the various remains, the details of which would figure in a separate blog entry as I want to capture in as much details as possible of the history that he passed on during our trip there. As the entire coba area is shaded with trees, it was the best Mayan architecture experience we had, even when comparing to Chichen Itza and Tulum.
El Camello Jr restaurant at Tulum for Dinner
As the ruins closed at around 5PM, we drove out and decided to try a restaurant on the way back in Tulum. This way, we get to take in a bit of the Tulum town in as well and it was mostly like a village back in India.
I had ‘Fish Veracruz’ and Divya had ‘Squid rings’ both of which were pretty good, at least in my opinion though Divya liked the ‘Fish Veracruz better.
Then I just drove back through the night while the rest of the crew slept except for Divya making sure that I was not falling asleep while driving.
The climate all through the week was a bit hot and humid that we had to have a shower every night after our trips, however late we arrived, to be able to sleep properly.
