Niya's sixth birthday

While Niya was turning six, XPO Last Mile was implementing a new software to manage it's warehouse operations at it' Marietta location. I was being consumed by this initiative while I got a text message from my wife. Niya was asking 'Why is it that neither my mom not my dad is getting me a gift for my birthday?'. On the way back from XPO, I stopped at Toysarus and got her a couple of gifts.
I was really worn out by the seventy hour-or-so week that I was sleeping on the table at our special dinner at the Cheese Cake Factory. The little birthday candle and birthday song was pretty nice as expected. Packed most of the food in to-go boxes, made it home and crashed.
We were still not satisfied with how the birthday had gone. Nor was Niya. Well, we took her to Legoland today and she is not complaining any more. And Divya and myself feel that we gave Niya her due as well.
Divya enjoys child activities as much as Niya. So I took up baby-sitting Amey while Divya and Niya enjoyed good mom-daughter time. I had great dad-son time too, letting Amey around and photographing him.
It can get dead boring at legoland if you are not into legos. A senior person, Meer Ali, from Costa Rica befriended me. His grand parents were from India, his parents were from Guyana, He had left Guyana in search for a good life and wanted to reach United States but ran out of money when he reached Costa Rica and so settled there for forty years. He is sixty now and has a daughter, whose husband, originally from Peurto Rico, works in Atlanta in air-traffic control. He was very open in his conversations and was eager to interact with people from India as it is hard to find Indians in Costa Rica. Costa Rica is a friendly place and has volcanoes, whose mouths of lava can be seen and whose water ends up in swimming pools in Costa Rica. I sometimes get along well with people my father's age. This was one such instance.
4D movies - the first one sprayed some water, threw some paper for snow, made a lot of noise, but did not connect. The second one, which was on the way out, was more interesting. Niya connected well with the movie as did Divya and me.We were in the first row and hence the sprays were more generous than the first one. Niya felt special.Well, there was no reason for her not to - she had her new birthday dress, cup cake celebration at school , her birthday gifts and a special trip to the legoland.
