The Last Metro

As today was the return date without dues , I had left with Brijesh to return the DVD to the library after checking out a car for him. Well he bought the car and I had the opportunity to watch the movie.
A very engrossing movie. I loved the subtlety and honesty with which the lady and her loyalty to her jewish husband is portrayed whereas she is in love with the lead actor of her husband's play. The husband who is following the sounds of the play from the cellar finds it out before you do as you watch the movie.
I might have seen this in other Truffaut movies as well but he has beautifully interwoven the drama in the theater in the movie with the drama of the artists in the movie. He does this successfully atleast two times as I recall. As the situation in the movie is foreign in nature, you have to take things as they come anyway. To add to this, the directorial theatrical techniques.
The strive for excellence that the hiding jewish director exhibit is inspiring.
Jokingly, the main actor keeps saying 'There are two women in you..' while looking at the palms of various actresses. This statement takes on a striking clarity as the two women in the female protagonist is brought out. It is an engrossing movie - realist at the same time.
