31st was supposed to be a leave around 3PM day.Well, left at 6PM , lazed around at home. No real plans on what to do with the new year yet. Can't drive far as Divya needs to be not very far from the hospital. So, I rubbed the magic lamp and google appeared.
'Things to do in new years eve in Johns creek' listed a few things, none family friendly. Then tried 'new year fireworks' and that gave an address in Duluth which is the next city. So, my parents , Divya,Niya and myself had dinner, put on our sweaters/jackets etc,fed the address into the GPS and started out.Within 15 minutes, we were at Duluth.
A typical fair setup that we are familiar with by now - with the inflatables for kids to play , the coffee/snack shops , a music show at a stage , cops , lights , people , cold , streets , open shops etc. There was not much crowd, so Niya got a whole lot of time to play in her chosen inflatable prop. Father and mother had walked over to another section and we were supposed to join as soon as Niya is done which took a whole lot of time. Cold got the better of us and we went back to our car and rested there with the engine and car heater on. To bide time , I went to the stall and got some funnel cakes for us to share. Niya kept us engaged as the wait for an uncertain fireworks show was threatening to become boring.
At 11 PM, we got out of the car and went back to the venue, this time, Niya got herself a bubble gun and played with the bubbles while we walked around to protect ourselves from the cold. We got close to the stage and enjoyed the songs. The bubbles lasted an hour. At 12 AM , the fireworks started , not much but yes , it was there, it was humble but it was nice and I really loved to be with everyone I cared for together on this new year as the sky lit up in red , green and silver sparks from the fireworks.
That was good , it is much better than sitting at home and watching new year malayalam movies in the various channels which is what we had done for christmas a few days back. So that was that.

Jan 1st
And today, we decided to have an american style lunch for our parents. Urban spoon had given a 96% for 'loren's grill'. So I had called them up but by the time we reached there at 2 PM , it was closed. So we GPSed around and finally landed at 'Pepperoni's tavern' which had elaborate tavern ambience with lot of space , huge screen tvs with american football, kids games , snooker table , games t-shirts etc. We ordered a full plate of baby back ribs as I have always been a ribs fan. We also had a serves-4 caesar salad and some desserts. All of us liked the food and it did make the new year's day special.
'Dhoom-3' was running in a near-by amc. Wanted to take my parents out to a theatre here and an indian movie,a potentially good one is not easy to come by. I was not sure of the show times either but we landed exactly at 4:15 PM which was the show time as well. As we wrestled through parking and finally reached the theatre , the movie certificate was just being shown. The movie was an entertainer , all of us enjoyed and there the day had come to a close and well.
